Rabat – AS FAR opened their 2026-27 Botola Pro campaign with a 1-0 victory over Widad Temara on Thursday at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Sports Complex in Rabat.
The Military Club had yet to play a league match this season after their opening two fixtures, against Raja Casablanca and Renaissance Berkane, were postponed. Thursday’s Matchday 3 meeting therefore represented their first appearance of the new domestic campaign.
Widad Temara made the hosts work for the victory, with the two teams going into halftime without a goal after an evenly contested opening period.
AS FAR increased the pressure after the break and eventually found the breakthrough from the penalty spot.
Youssef El Fahli converted the decisive penalty in the 63rd minute, giving the Rabat club a lead they protected until the final whistle.
AS FAR collect first three points
The victory puts AS FAR on three points despite having two matches in hand over most of their Botola rivals.
Their delayed league start came after both the scheduled opener against Raja and the Matchday 2 meeting with Renaissance Berkane were postponed.
Widad Temara, meanwhile, remain on three points after three matches.
The newly promoted side had made a major statement in their opening fixture by defeating Wydad Casablanca 3-1 at the Mohammed V Stadium before losing 1-0 to Union Touarga in their second game.
For AS FAR, Thursday’s result provides a winning start before a busy period across domestic and continental competition.
The Military Club are scheduled to visit Hassania Agadir in Matchday 4 on Monday, October 12, before turning their attention to the CAF Confederation Cup, where they are due to face Ivorian side CO Korhogo in the second preliminary round.
With two postponed league fixtures still to be rescheduled, AS FAR will look to build on their winning start while making up ground on teams that have already played more matches.
