Tan-Tan – Moroccan police seized 4.1 tons of cannabis resin and arrested three suspects in a drug trafficking operation near Fez early on Saturday, according to the General Directorate of National Security (DGSN).
The Regional Judicial Police Brigade in Fez carried out the operation in coordination with the General Directorate for Territorial Surveillance (DGST) in a rural area outside the city.
During the operation, officers arrested the main female suspect and found a truck loaded with 4.1 tons of cannabis resin at her farm. They also seized four boat engines and four inflatable boats suspected of being used in international drug smuggling operations.
Ongoing investigations led police to arrest two additional suspects over their alleged involvement in the criminal activity.
A check of national security databases showed that the main suspect was already wanted nationwide in connection with a similar case involving drug trafficking and psychotropic substances.
Authorities placed all three suspects under judicial investigation under the supervision of the competent public prosecutor’s office.
The investigation aims to identify other people who may be linked to the suspected trafficking network and determine the alleged criminal activities of the three suspects.
The operation forms part of ongoing efforts by the DGSN and the DGST to combat international drug trafficking networks and the illegal trade in psychotropic substances.
