Rabat – Medhi Benatia, former Morocco international and ex-Bayern Munich and Juventus star, describes Donnarumma’s performance against PSG as disastrous.
Speaking on Canal+, Benatia blamed the Italian goalkeeper for his role in City’s difficult start and criticized an error that helped PSG secure their fourth goal.
PSG scored three times in the first half through Désiré Doué, Ousmane Dembélé, and Vitinha, putting City under pressure at the Etihad Stadium.
Benatia said Donnarumma could have done better on Doué’s opening goal in the 13th minute, but PSG doubled their lead just two minutes later.
“When they concede two goals in 15 minutes, he (Donnarumma) clearly bears responsibility for the first goal, and he could have done better,” Benatia said.
The former Moroccan international also criticized Donnarumma’s handling of the ball during PSG’s fourth goal, scored by Maghnes Akliouche in the 63rd minute.
City had begun to improve after the break, with Erling Haaland scoring in the 53rd minute to reduce the deficit. However, Donnarumma’s mistake allowed PSG to restore their three-goal advantage.
Benatia argued that the goalkeeper’s error came at a particularly damaging moment, just as City were attempting to recover.
“When Manchester City improved and began to come back, he caused a second goal. So the whole match was a disaster,” Benatia added
