Rabat – Mohammed VI Polytechnic University (UM6P), through its Faculty of Medical Sciences (FMS), announced on Tuesday that it has selected four student startups as winners of the first edition of the Ibtikar & Wikaya program.
UM6P launched the project in March this year, reaching over 200 students in medicine, pharmacy, and nursing, as well as doctoral students. Of the total participants, 60 of them worked on 20 projects.
With support from the OCP Foundation, the program aims to test an entrepreneurial innovation model within FMS.
Following a selection process based on scientific relevance and feasibility, nine teams presented their solutions before a jury.
Upon selection, participants received training and mentoring to assess their ideas against real-world needs and evaluate their entrepreneurial potential.
The program, held on UM6P’s campus in Benguirir, brings together medical education, research, and entrepreneurship to develop solutions that respond to concrete needs within the healthcare system.
The four winning projects include BIOTEX, LRRKIT, RADCHECK, and SHIFAA ASSISTANCE.
BIOTEX aims to develop local production of biological reagents to reduce dependence on imports and facilitate laboratory supplies. As for LRRIKT, the project works on an affordable kit to detect biomarkers associated with Parkinson’s disease, while RADCHECK uses AI to improve the quality control of chest X-rays and reduce the need for repeat examinations.
Meanwhile, SHIFAA ASSISTANCE develops a digital platform designed to facilitate access to home healthcare, particularly in remote areas.
“The four winning startups will continue developing their solutions with scientific and entrepreneurial support from the FMS,” the UM6P said in a statement, adding that the objective is to “consolidate and sustain this model while laying the groundwork for the creation of a dedicated bio-incubator.”
