Rabat – Real Betis winger Antony suffered a major off-field setback after his home was broken into while he was on the pitch facing FC Porto in the UEFA Champions League.
The Brazilian international confirmed the break-in on social media, expressing his shock and distress over the incident, which took place during Betis’ 3-2 victory over Porto.
The 26-year-old player, who featured in the starting lineup at Seville’s La Cartuja stadium, noted that seeing his family lose its sense of safety was far more distressing than any stolen items.
“My home was burglarized. What makes it even more infuriating is not just the material loss, but the complete sense of insecurity and seeing my family members feeling terrified,” Anthony posted on social media on Thursday.
The Brazilian winger went on to stress that his family’s well-being remains his top priority despite the frightening experience.
“But amid everything that happened, one thing became clearer to me: there is no material possession in the world more valuable than the lives, safety, and comfort of my family. Everything we lost can be replaced,” he concluded.
“The feeling of insecurity and anger will remain, but so will my conviction that our greatest wealth was never in the things inside the house, but in the people who turn it into a warm home that brings us together. Because in the end, my family will always remain the greatest achievement I have ever accomplished in my life.”
Antony moved to Real Betis from Manchester United in 2025, having worked his way up from a humble childhood in São Paulo to the top of European football.
