Rabat – Morocco’s national futsal team will face Egypt in the semifinals of the 2026 Africa Futsal Cup of Nations on Monday, October 19, at 8 p.m., following the conclusion of the group stage on Saturday.
The Atlas Lions secured their place in the semifinals after finishing at the top of Group A with nine points from three consecutive victories. Egypt, meanwhile, finished second in Group B with six points.
Egypt’s opponent was confirmed following their 4-2 defeat against Angola on Saturday evening at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Indoor Hall in Rabat.
The result allowed Angola to finish at the top of Group B, while Egypt advanced to the semifinals in second place.
Morocco enter semifinals with perfect record
Morocco delivered an impressive performance throughout the group stage, winning all three matches without conceding a single goal.
The Atlas Lions began their campaign with a convincing 4-0 victory over Algeria before defeating Zambia 7-0 in their second match.
They continued their strong run with a 6-0 victory over Libya in their final group-stage encounter, completing the opening round with a perfect record.
Across the three matches, Morocco scored 17 goals and conceded none, highlighting both their attacking strength and defensive organization.
These results have strengthened Morocco’s position ahead of the knockout stage, where the team will aim to maintain its winning momentum and secure a place in the final.
Egypt look to recover from angola defeat
Egypt also enjoyed a strong start to the competition before suffering their first defeat against Angola.
The Egyptian team opened its campaign with an 8-0 victory over Tanzania before securing another comfortable 4-0 win against Mozambique.
However, Egypt could not maintain its unbeaten record in the final group-stage match, losing 4-2 to Angola.
Despite the defeat, Egypt finished the group stage with six points, scoring 14 goals and conceding four across three matches.
The upcoming encounter against Morocco will offer Egypt an opportunity to recover from Saturday’s setback and compete for a place in the continental final.
Angola to face Algeria in second semifinal
The other semifinal will bring together Angola, the winners of Group B, and Algeria, who finished second in Group A behind Morocco.
Angola secured first place in its group following Saturday’s victory over Egypt, while Algeria advanced from a group that also included Morocco, Zambia, and Libya.
Both semifinal matches will determine the two teams that will compete for the continental title.
For Morocco, Monday’s encounter represents another important step toward winning the competition on home soil.
The Atlas Lions will look to build on their strong group-stage performances against an Egyptian side that has also demonstrated its attacking capabilities during the tournament.
With a place in the final at stake, Morocco will aim to extend its unbeaten run and continue its pursuit of another African futsal title.
