Rabat – The Egyptian Football Association (EFA) has been formally notified of FIFA’s Disciplinary Committee rulings regarding penalties handed down to key national team figures.
Head coach Hossam Hassan, team director Ibrahim Hassan, and winger Mostafa Ziko have all received match bans.
These disciplinary actions stem from heated altercations following Egypt’s Round of 16 elimination against Argentina at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
FIFA’s Disciplinary Committee handed three-match bans to both Hossam Hassan and Ibrahim Hassan, while forward Ziko received a five-game suspension.
The penalties were triggered by post-match remarks following Egypt’s 3-2 defeat to Argentina, a match decided by a late winner in the dying minutes of the 2026 World Cup knockout clash.
Prior to issuing the final bans, FIFA’s Disciplinary Committee had launched an official inquiry into the post-match comments made by the trio. The rulings were formally handed down after the investigation concluded.
In response to the rulings, the Egyptian Football Association has submitted an official application to the disciplinary body, asking for a full, written explanation detailing the motives behind the bans.
Egypt enjoyed a memorable run at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, advancing second out of Group G after holding Belgium and Iran to draws alongside a decisive 3-1 victory over New Zealand.
After edging Australia on penalties in the Round of 32, the Pharaohs set up a thrilling Round of 16 clash in Atlanta against defending champion Argentina.
Egypt led 2-0 midway through the second half, before Argentina mounted a late comeback to eliminate Hossam Hassan’s side in a dramatic finish.
