Rabat – The Turkish Football Federation’s disciplinary committee handed 45-day bans to 147 current and former club officials on Tuesday for breaching gambling regulations.
The sanctions mark the governing body’s latest enforcement action in a wider probe into betting across the nation’s football system.
The Professional Football Disciplinary Board issued the sanctions following a review of 448 officials whom the federation flagged for allegedly placing bets during their tenure at various clubs, according to Reuters.Under these terms, the penalized executives cannot manage club operations, attend official proceedings, or fulfill any roles within Turkish football until their suspensions expire.
Among those penalized is Trabzonspor president Ertugrul Dogan, the most prominent figure named in the disciplinary ruling.
Meanwhile, the board imposed no penalties on the remaining 301 individuals after finding insufficient evidence to warrant formal disciplinary action.
The temporary suspensions began in September when the TFF targeted 448 administrators across the Süper Lig and TFF First League, covering personnel who had held positions over the past five seasons.
At the time of the initial referrals, the federation stated that evidence showed the accused officials had actively placed bets while holding roles at their respective clubs.
This latest round of penalties builds on the federation’s heightened scrutiny following last year’s widespread football scandal.
In that earlier probe, governing officials suspended 1,024 players and 149 referees for betting infractions.
