Morocco team news
Morocco have enjoyed a perfect campaign so far, with four victories and an impressive defensive record.
Dguig’s side began their title defense with a 4-0 win over Algeria before defeating Zambia 7-0 and Libya 6-0 to finish top of Group A.
The defending champions maintained their form in Monday’s semifinal, where they comfortably defeated three-time African champions Egypt 6-0.
Chaaraoui’s return has been particularly encouraging after the Moroccan international missed the final group-stage match against Libya after suffering an injury against Zambia.
Speaking to CAF ahead of Wednesday’s final, Chaaraoui reiterated Morocco’s determination to retain the trophy.
“Our mindset is to win the cup here, and we’ll do everything to prepare for the final. It’s not an easy match, but we hope to win, inshallah,” he said.
Dguig has also urged his players to remain focused despite their convincing semifinal victory.
“We must forget this match and focus on the final. Angola are a very good team with strong technical qualities,” he said following the win over Egypt, according to MAP.
Angola team news
Angola enter the final unbeaten after defeating Mozambique 5-1, Tanzania 6-0, and Egypt 4-2 to finish top of Group B with nine points.
The Southern African side faced their toughest test in Monday’s semifinal against Algeria, where they overturned a 2-0 halftime deficit to secure a 3-2 victory.
Aderito Santos began the comeback in the 29th minute before Hornes Santo equalized and Francisco Gabriel Chico struck the winner in the 38th minute.
Joao Cambangula has also been among Angola’s key attacking players, scoring four goals against Tanzania and twice against Egypt.
“We never give up. We always believe. The game only finishes when the clock reaches zero,” Santo told CAF after the semifinal.
Angola now face Morocco in a repeat of the 2024 final, with hopes of claiming their first continental title.
What to expect
Wednesday’s encounter will bring together two unbeaten teams with contrasting routes to the final.
Morocco’s attacking consistency and defensive organization have allowed them to control their matches, while Angola have demonstrated their ability to recover when trailing.
Dguig has acknowledged the challenge the Angolan side pose, particularly their attacking approach and the individual quality of their players.
The previous meeting between the two nations in the 2024 final ended in a 5-1 victory for Morocco, but Angola’s performances this year suggest the hosts cannot afford to underestimate their opponents.
Victory on Wednesday for Morocco would make the Atlas Lions the first nation to win the competition four times and extend their run of consecutive continental titles.
Earlier in the evening, Egypt and Algeria will contest the third-place match at the same venue, with kickoff scheduled for 5 p.m. Moroccan time.
