Rabat – Dani Olmo faces a month on the sidelines following a physical clash in Barcelona’s 4-2 Champions League defeat against Paris Saint-Germain on Tuesday.
La Liga’s leaders confirmed the extent of the left adductor damage on Wednesday, ruling the key playmaker out for a critical stretch of upcoming fixtures.
“Tests carried out confirm that Dani Olmo is suffering from an injury to his left adductor muscle as a consequence of a collision with an opponent during the game against Paris Saint-Germain,” the club confirmed.
“The player is expected to be out for around a month,” they added.
The setback rules the midfielder out of Sunday’s Clasico against Real Madrid at Camp Nou, leaving Barcelona without one of their key players for what is widely considered the defining fixture of the Spanish football calendar.
In addition to the Clasico, Olmo will also miss Barcelona’s La Liga fixture against Alaves on Saturday, October 31.
Barcelona will further feel his absence during a crucial stretch of high-stakes fixtures, including a key European clash with Aston Villa and a demanding domestic meeting against Atletico Madrid.
The Spanish playmaker was forced off during the first half of Tuesday’s encounter against PSG following a collision with Vitinha.
Olmo signaled to the bench for an immediate substitution after feeling sharp pain in his left adductor, instantly recognizing the severity of the damage.
The high-intensity clash in Paris carried a heavy physical toll for both sides.
PSG winger Khvicha Kvaratskhelia is set to undergo surgery after sustaining an anterior cruciate ligament injury, while teammates Ousmane Dembele and Marquinhos were also forced off with injuries during the match.
