Rabat – Morocco’s Director General of National Security and Territorial Surveillance (DGSN), Abdellatif Hammouchi, ordered the exceptional promotion of police officer Mehdi Amraoui on Wednesday following his death in a road accident while on duty.
The promotion raises Amraoui’s rank to chief brigadier, according to a statement issued yesterday.
Amraoui worked as a motorcycle officer with the mobile traffic unit under Rabat’s police prefecture. He sustained serious injuries in a road accident while performing his official duties as part of a scheduled mission. Medical teams transferred him to hospital, where he later died.
Following Hammouchi’s decision, the central departments responsible for human resources will record Amraoui’s exceptional promotion in his professional file. They will also take the necessary administrative measures to ensure that the promotion carries its legal and financial benefits.
Hammouchi also instructed the Mohammed VI Foundation for Social Works of National Security Personnel to offer condolences to the officer’s family and provide financial support and other necessary assistance following his death.
The measures follow the death of an officer who lost his life while carrying out his professional responsibilities.
The General Directorate of National Security said the promotion and accompanying social support reflect its recognition of the commitment and sense of responsibility demonstrated by its personnel in the line of duty.
The directorate also described the decision as recognition of the services and sacrifices made by national security officers in protecting the country and its citizens.
