Casablanca – Moroccan police arrested a 39-year-old Omani national today in Tangier after confirming that he was the subject of an international arrest warrant issued by judicial authorities in Oman over suspected fraud, according to Morocco’s General Directorate of National Security (DGSN).
Police officers carried out a check against the National Security database, which revealed that Omani judicial authorities had requested the suspect’s arrest at the international level. The man is suspected of involvement in a fraud case in Oman.
Following the arrest, the competent public prosecutor’s office ordered extradition procedures to begin to address the Omani authorities’ request.
The DGSN tasked its Arab liaison division with notifying Omani authorities of the arrest as part of bilateral security cooperation to track down internationally wanted suspects involved in cross-border crimes.
Moroccan security services regularly coordinate with foreign judicial and security authorities to enforce international arrest requests. Such cooperation allows authorities to communicate information about suspects and take the required legal steps when they locate individuals wanted by another country.
In this case, Moroccan authorities placed the Omani national under extradition procedures following his arrest in Tangier. The DGSN did not disclose the suspect’s identity or provide further information about the alleged fraud case.
The investigation and extradition process will proceed under the supervision of the competent authorities.
