Rabat – Abdellatif Hammouchi, Morocco’s Director General of National Security and Territorial Surveillance, attended the 52nd annual meeting of the Supreme Council of Naif Arab University for Security Sciences in Riyadh on October 25 and 26.
Hammouchi participated as a council member for his second term, alongside the secretary-general of the Council of Arab Interior Ministers, the university’s president, and a select group of leaders from higher education and research institutions specializing in scientific and technical fields.
Saudi Arabia’s Minister of Interior, Prince Abdulaziz bin Saud bin Naif Al Saud, chaired the meeting, which serves as the university’s highest decision-making body.
The council sets the university’s general policies and strategic priorities for education, training, and research in security, policing, law, and technology across the Arab world.
Hammouchi heads both Morocco’s General Directorate of National Security (DGSN), which oversees the national police, and the General Directorate for Territorial Surveillance (DGST), the country’s domestic intelligence service.
He has held senior responsibilities within Morocco’s security services for decades. He joined the DGST in 1991 and became its director in 2005. In 2015, King Mohammed VI appointed him director general of the DGSN while he continued to lead the DGST.
His role on the university’s Supreme Council gives Morocco a place in discussions on the direction of security education and research across Arab countries.
Based in Riyadh, Naif Arab University for Security Sciences is a specialized academic institution that provides higher education, training, and research in security and police sciences. It serves as the scientific and academic arm of the Council of Arab Interior Ministers, bringing together expertise from across the region.
The university covers several fields, including policing, criminal justice, law, security studies, and technical sciences. Its work aims to strengthen professional training and research and help security institutions respond to changing challenges.
The Supreme Council oversees the university’s general policy and its scientific, administrative, and financial affairs. Under the university’s statutes, council members serve renewable three-year terms.
