Rabat –  A video clip has surfaced on the internet showing a woman knocking a pervert down with a single punch, after he sexually harassed her.

In the video, a passerby is seen squeezing the backside of a middle-aged woman as she knelt to kiss a little boy who was on a motorcycle.

Rather than letting it slide, as many in Morocco have become accustomed to doing, the woman quickly turned around and gave the harasser a hard punch on the face. The man fell flat on the floor.

Moroccan news website, Alyaoum24, reported that the incident occurred in front of a store in Inezgane, south of Agadir. The video was uploaded on the internet by the owner of the store.

Alyaoum 24 also reported that the man’s head was seriously injured by the fall on the floor. He lost consciousness for over two hours, according to the same source. The woman, on the other hand, left him lying on the floor as if nothing had happened.

A similar incident, but with a different ending, took place in the town of Inezgane earlier this year and sparked controversy on social media.

On June 18th, two young female hairdressers aged 19 and 23, were harassed by a group of street merchants as they walked through a market, in Inezgane.

Instead of defending them, the local police deemed their outfits ‘inappropriate’ and arrested the two women for “violating public decency”. Their case sparked a national outcry. An internet petition, calling the arrest an attack on personal freedom, had garnered thousands of signatures. They were acquitted of indecency charges after they went on trial in mid-July.
