A rainy and snowy weekend ahead in several Moroccan provinces, the weather office announced today.

Rainfall ranging between 30 and 50 millimeters will hit mountainous areas like the aLAl Haouz region, Chichaoua, Ouarzazate, Tinghir, Azilalm, and Taroudant from Friday to Saturday, the office detailed.

Strong winds from 75 to 90 kilometers are expected on Friday in Chichaoua, Essaouira Boulemane, Taourirt, and Figuig.

Al Haouz, which was struck by a devastating earthquake last year in September, will also be part of the provinces that will be concerned with the new weather alert.

Windy weather and snowfall will also hit other provinces, the alert added.

Morocco has of late seen slightly better weather conditions marked by rainfall and cold weather compared to recent weeks, when temperatures reached over 28 degrees Celsius– an unusual situation for the fall season.

This comes amid a worrying drought that Morocco has endured for the past six years, prompting special measures to address the situation.
