Casablanca- Djemaa El-Fna square in Marrakech ranked third most beautiful square worldwide in a rating made by travel website Lonely Planet.

The website ranked 10 of the most beautiful squares in the world as part of a program entitled, “Idées de Voyages” (travel ideas). This program comes as a guide for all international tourists in search of the most magical and diverse destinations in the world.

The main square of the Old Town of Kraków, in Poland, topped the list of the most beautiful squares in the world.

Saint-Marc square in Venice, Italy, ranked second on the list, followed by Morocco’s celebrated Djemaa El-Fna as third most beautiful square in the world. This also makes of Marrakech’s main square the most beautiful square in the Arab World and Africa.

France’s Stanislas square, in Nancy, ranked fourth, whereas Spain’s Plaza Mayor, in Salamanque, ranked fifth on the list.

Old Town Square in Prague, the capital of the Czech Republic, came sixth on the list, followed by Belgium’s Grand-Place in Anvers.

Mexico’s Zocalo square ranked eighth on the list, whilst Iran’s Imam square ranked ninth, followed by the tenth most beautiful square in the world, Russia’s Red Square in Moscow.

Djemaa El-Fna, a square and market place in Marrakesh’s medina quarter, was founded by the Almoravids, an Moroccan Amazigh dynasty, in 1070-1072. This square is one of Morocco’s most enchanting and diverse places, and one that has attracted tourists from all corners of the world.
