Rabat – Israeli Occupation Forces (IOF) airstrikes across the Gaza Strip have killed at least 29 Palestinians, local health officials reported Friday, as the region faces renewed violence.
The strikes come in response to rocket fire from Gaza, which triggered sirens in southern Israel for the first time in two months.
The IOF confirmed the rocket launches, stating that their Iron Dome defense system intercepted one projectile, while another fell in an open area without causing casualties or significant damage.
In Gaza, however, the impact of the airstrikes was severe. Several locations were targeted, with some of the deadliest strikes hitting densely populated areas.
Palestinian health authorities reported that an airstrike in Gaza City killed at least seven people, including civilians, after a residential building was hit. In Khan Younis, a strike claimed four more lives, including a baby.
Local residents in the Zeitoun neighborhood and Rafah, near the Egyptian border, reported additional demolitions by Israeli forces, further contributing to the destruction.
The escalating violence has exacerbated an already dire humanitarian situation in Gaza. The United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA) released a report detailing the deteriorating conditions.
According to the report, 1.4 million people in Gaza did not receive food rations in September due to Israeli-imposed bureaucratic hurdles, limited access to border crossings, and the threat of looting by criminal gangs.
Humanitarian aid deliveries have also been drastically reduced. In September, only 52 aid trucks entered Gaza daily, compared to the 700 trucks the population needs.
UNRWA further reported that 86% of its schools-turned-shelters have been hit or damaged by IOF airstrikes, and 71 schools have been destroyed.
The ongoing genocide has left nearly 70% of Gaza’s crop fields destroyed, and 1.9 million people — approximately 90% of the population — are now displaced.
Since October 7, 2023, more than 41,800 Palestinians have been killed, with nearly 97,000 injured, according to health officials.
