King Mohammed VI sent a message of condolences to Algerian President Abdelaziz Bouteflika following the death of former President Ahmed Ben Bella.

In this message, King Mohammed VI expresses his deep grief and great affliction following the death of the great Mujahid Ahmed Ben Bella, first president of the People’s Democratic Republic of Algeria.

On behalf of Morocco, King and people, the Sovereign extends, in these painful circumstances, his deep condolences and sincere sympathy to President Abdelaziz Bouteflika and the brotherly Algerian people, adding that sister Algeria lost in Ben Bella, one of its historic leaders and valorous men who led the liberation struggle to save the country from colonialism.

He was one of the dedicated activists alongside his illustrious companions, who have honored their commitment to God and made great sacrifices to ensure the emancipation and independence of their country and make it recover its sovereignty, says the message.

King Mohammed VI recalls the bonds of solidarity and consideration that the deceased had with had with Morocco during the period of common struggle for independence, as well as his Maghreb unionist spirit.

“The demise of this historic leader is not only a loss to the Algerian people, but also a loss to the deep-rooted Maghreb fraternity and also for the Arab nation to which he devoted himself to defend its unity and greatness and to support its just causes,” says King Mohammed VI in this message.
