Rabat – Fouzi Lekjaa, President of the Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF), hosted and hailed the Moroccan national futsal team today at the Mohammed VI Football Complex in Sale.

During the meeting, Lekjaa congratulated the Atlas Lions for winning their third consecutive Africa Cup of Nations title, which has also earned them a spot in the World Cup, set to be held from September 14 to October 6.

According to an official FRMF statement, Lekjaa urged the team to proudly represent Moroccan football on the world stage and reviewed the final preparations for their fourth World Cup appearance, following their previous tournaments in Thailand (2012), Colombia (2016), and Lithuania (2020).

He emphasized that the FRMF has allocated all necessary resources to ensure the team’s success, highlighting that they have become a model for other teams.

With the Moroccan team currently ranked sixth in the latest FIFA standings, Lekjaa also stressed the need to achieve positive results in the coming World Cup.

Morocco has a notable history in futsal, having been a runner-up in both the 1998 Arab Futsal Championship and the 2000 African Futsal Championship, and securing third place in the 2008 African Futsal Championship.

The team achieved a significant milestone in May 2021, winning their first Arab Cup by decisively beating Egypt 4-0 in the final. They went on to advance to the knockout stages at the 2021 World Cup, finishing second in the group phase with one win and two draws.

The team left the tournament on a relatively high note despite a 1-0 loss to Brazil in the quarterfinal, with many fans and neutral observers applauding their spirited and impressive performances.

They continued their success story by winning the 2022 Arab Cup, claiming their second title with a 3-0 victory over Iraq.

Their achievements were further highlighted in September 2022, when they won their first Confederations Cup by defeating Iran 4-3 in the final.

The three-time African champions will depart next Sunday for Uzbekistan, where they will compete in Group E alongside Portugal, Panama, and Tajikistan.
