Rabat – Morocco’s Ministry of Equipment is preparing to speed up technical studies on its infrastructure as part of the country’s preparations for the 2030 World Cup.

Minister of Equipment Nizar Baraka announced on Monday that the ministry will soon sign a partnership agreement with the Beni Mellal Khenifra region, ensuring that all stakeholders are mobilized to put in place the necessary infrastructure in anticipation of the global tournament.

Morocco will co-host the 2030 World Cup along with Portugal and Spain. King Mohammed VI has been instructing the government to ensure the success of the organizing campaign as well as the country’s assets to ensure the hosting of the tournament.

Last year in December, King Mohammed VI chaired a ministerial council, discussing extensive plans for infrastructure development, including upgrades to stadiums, airports, and national roads.

The plans also include investments in the hospitality, medical, and telecommunication sectors.

During the council, the monarch instructed to create an expanded committee, which will include representatives from the government, civil society, Moroccan diaspora, and African experts.

The committee will oversee the execution of the country’s infrastructure and logistical projects to meet the World Cup demands.

Minister Baraka also said that a ministerial committee is now working on the programming of road projects to ensure their completion before 2030.

Among the projects is a highway connecting Rabat to Casablanca as well as the continental highway. Studies for both of these have been finalized, and tenders have also been launched to start construction as soon as possible.

Morocco invests an annual budget of $1.8 billion to upgrade its road infrastructure.

In addition to roadwork, plans have been put in place to enhance the experience for those wanting to travel to Morocco by air.

Abdessamad Kayouh, Morocco’s Minister of Transport announced in January that the country will invest $4 billion in airport expansion projects by 2030. The goal is not only to expand the airport capacities but also to facilitate the country’s growing demand for air travel.
