Rabat – Morocco’s weather authority released an orange level alert forecasting strong wind gusts across several provinces on Monday and Tuesday.

The alert added that the winds could reach a speech of 75 to 90 kilometers per hour.

Morocco’s Directorate of Meteorology said that the gusts will affect the provinces of Sidi Ifni and Tiznit from 8 p.m. today until 3 p.m. on Tuesday.

It added that the same weather condition will affect the provinces of El Jadida, Sidi Bennour, Safi, Essaouira and Chichaoua from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. on the same day.

The weather alert comes as several other regions are experiencing a significant drop in temperature, mainly northern provinces and the Atlas mountains.

In addition, cities like Ifrane and Ouarzazate saw notable snowfall, with authorities mobilizing to restore traffic in blocked roads.

The Ministry of the Interior announced on Sunday the launch of an emergency response plan to assist communities affected by the ongoing cold wave.

The initiative will target over 872,000 residents in 2,014 remote villages across 241 municipalities in 28 provinces.

The emergency plan includes measures making sure that roads are maintained, and carrying out rescue operations when needed.

The plan also ensures regular and sufficient supplies of essential goods, including heating materials, as well as deploying machinery near roads at risk of closure to maintain access.

Authorities are distributing food, blankets, and firewood to affected families, as well as assisting livestock owners by providing animal feed.
