Rabat – Julie Gahinet, a parliamentary collaborator for French politician Julien Odoul, is facing accusations of making racist remarks towards three individuals of Moroccan descent.

While Gahinet denies the allegations, witnesses have confirmed the claims, leading the three French Moroccans to file formal complaints against her.

The incident reportedly occurred during an altercation at a Paris restaurant on July 17. Gahinet is accused of insulting the group by stating, “You Are Not Real French,” and allegedly body-shaming one of them.

According to the plaintiffs, Gahinet declared, “I am at home; I am a blonde, blue-eyed Frenchwoman.” She allegedly gestured to indicate to them the difference in their skin color and told them to “get out,” adding, “The French do not want French people like you.”

In response to the allegations, Gahinet has made a public statement denying any wrongdoing.

“I refute all your information and deny the racist accusations made against me, which are mere fabrications,” she asserted, further noting her intention to pursue legal action for defamation.

According to StreetPress, one of the plaintiffs, who left Morocco to pursue higher education, is now a naturalized French citizen. The two other plaintiffs, aged 36, are also of Moroccan origin and were present during the alleged incident.

The three have filed a complaint for “public insult against an individual based on their race, religion, or origin,” an offense that carries a potential penalty of up to one year in prison and a €45,000 fine.
