Rabat- A new survey by Moroccan market research firm Sunergia suggested that 64% of Moroccans are not planning a summer trip this year.

The study published today by the Moroccan newspaper Assahabh suggested that as little as 29% of the respondents have traveled or plan to travel while 5% of Moroccans have not yet made a decision.

The study shows that 40% of those who travel during summer vacations spend between MAD 5,000 ( approximately $500) and MAD 8,0000 (approximately $800).

About 31% of travelers spend MAD 10,000 (approximately $1,000) or more, and 29% spend less than MAD 5,000.

As little as 16% of vacationers spend over MAD 20,000 (approximately $2,000) while 30 % spend MAD 5,000.

About 88% of Moroccans who traveled or plan to travel this year prefer to spend their vacation in Morocco, while 15% choose to spend their trips abroad.

According to the survey, those who prefer domestic tourism prefer to spend their vacation in Tangier, Casablanca, and Marrakech.

Spain, meanwhile, tops the foreign destinations targeted by Moroccans, followed by France, Italy, and Turkiye.

The survey suggests that the majority of Moroccan vacationers spend no more than one week.

26% of respondents said they prefer to spend two weeks traveling while only 6% target 30% trips.

In terms of accommodation, 78% of vacationers prefer renting apartments, while only 14 % prefer hotels.

The study reveals that 47% of Moroccans have never booked their accommodation in advance. This means that 78% of them prefer to search for housing on-site, and only 9% of Moroccans use hotel booking sites.

The data reflects similar findings in terms of those who travel internationally. The survey suggested that 85% of respondents have never booked their accommodation in advance while only 15% book their hotels before traveling.
