Rabat – The Prince Moulay Abdellah Sports Complex is officially in the running to host the 2030 World Cup semifinals.

This was announced during a meeting in Rabat on Wednesday to discuss and review the progress of preparations for the 2030 World Cup, which will be co-hosted jointly by Morocco, Spain, and Portugal.

Fouzi Lekjaa, President of Morocco’s Football Federation (FMRF), Mohamed Yacoubi, the governor of the Rabat prefecture, as well as Abdelouafi Laftit, Minister of the Interior, attended the meeting.

Lekjaa affirmed that the development trajectory initiated by King Mohammed VI over the past 25 years throughout the Kingdom will make the country a preferred destination for hosting exceptional continental or global events, including the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

In a press statement following the meeting, he made it clear that Rabat will play a central role in the 2030 World Cup, especially coming from the experience of hosting the AFCON 2025, as well as general matches for Morocco’s national football team.

“The Prince Moulay Abdellah Sports Complex, which will be ready by the end of this year with a capacity of 65,000 spectators, will be one of the stadiums qualified to host the World Cup semifinals,” Lekjaa told the press, noting that the North African country is determined to organize an exceptional World Cup.

During the meeting, Laftit commented on the importance of mobilizing all stakeholders to ensure the success of organizing the global competition.

Laftit also emphasized the shared responsibility among all parties. He urged all involved to redouble efforts and mobilize all necessary financial and human resources to accelerate the pace of preparations.

He cited Morocco’s preparations to host the next AFCON, noting that this would build confidence for the subsequent preparations for sporting events.

Morocco, along with Spain and Portugal have been scaling up meetings to discuss World Cup preparations.

A final decision on venus and distribution of hosting rights for the World Cup games will be unveiled in the coming weeks.

Spanish reports have alleged that FIFA prefers the final game to take place in the Santiago Bernabeu stadium.

In May, Lekjaa stressed that Morocco is well positioned to host key games in the upcoming competitions.

“I believe that Morocco… will be qualified to have the honor of hosting the biggest teams and the most important matches in an event like the World Cup,” he stated.

Along with this statement of confidence, he has also frequently promised that the 2030 World Cup will be the best in FIFA’s history.
