Rabat — King Mohammed VI has reaffirmed Morocco’s support for Syria’s territorial integrity, sovereignty, and stability.
King Mohammed VI sent his reaffirmation in a message of congratulations to Syrian President Ahmed Al-Sharaa, on the 79th anniversary of Evacuation Day.
The event commemorates the evacuation of the last French soldier at the end of the French mandate of Syria on April 17, 1946.
In the message, he extended his sincere congratulations and best wishes for health and happiness to the Syrian president, wishing continued progress and prosperity to the Syrian people.
The King also reiterated Morocco’s “steadfast support” not only for the country’s territorial integrity and sovereignty, but also for national unity, particularly in the process of al-Sharaa leading his country through “this delicate phase of its history.”
The monarch is among the world leaders who congratulated Al Sharaa on assuming the Interim Syrian presidency in February, renewing Morocco’s firm position supporting Syrians and their endeavor in achieving their aspiration.
Syria entered a new political phase following the collapse of Bashar al-Assad’s regime, which was overthrown by Syrian rebels led by Hayat Tahrir al-Sham
In March, al-Sharaa announced the formation of a new government and reaffirmed his commitment to building a “strong and stable state.”
Within this restructuring, former Foreign Minister Assad al-Shaibani retained his position in the new cabinet along with former Defense Minister Murhaf Abu Qasra.
The country’s ministry is now headed by Anas Khattab, while Mohamed Yosr Bernieh was named the finance minister.
