Rabat – Crystal Palace are reportedly on the verge of securing the signature of Real Betis’ young Moroccan defender, Chadi Riad, ahead of the upcoming summer transfer window.

Renowned Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano confirmed today that the Eagles are finalizing the details of the transfer, which would see the talented center-back move to Selhurst Park.

According to Romano, Riad has already agreed to join Crystal Palace, with a formal proposal of $13 million plus $2 million in add-ons having been sent to Betis.

The deal is expected to be finalized soon, marking the first significant signing under the management of Oliver Glasner.

“Crystal Palace are closing in on a deal to sign Chadi Riad from Real Betis as a new center-back. Understand formal proposal has been sent for $13 million plus $2million add-ons, deal being finalized between clubs.

Chadi Riad already said yes to #CPFC. Here we go, soon,” Romano posted on X. The 20-year-old defender has had a standout season in La Liga, making 30 appearances for Betis.

Riad initially joined the Andalusian club on loan from Barcelona, but was permanently signed last summer for a fee of $3 million. His performances have quickly attracted attention, and Betis now appear set to make a substantial profit on the Morocco international.

Since signing Oliver Glasner as their coach in February, Crystal Palace have seen significant improvements on the pitch. They climbed up the Premier League table and finished the season  in a respectable 10th place. Glasner’s tactical shift to a three-at-the-back system has been a key factor in the team’s resurgence.

Nathaniel Clyne, traditionally a full-back, has adapted well to playing as one of the three central defenders, but the addition of a natural center-back like Riad will provide much-needed reinforcement and depth.

Riad, who has already earned two caps for the Moroccan national team, is seen as a promising talent with a bright future. His move to Crystal Palace is expected to bolster the English club’s defensive options as they aim to build on their successful season and push for higher ambitions in the Premier League.

With the deal nearing completion, fans of the Eagles can look forward to welcoming a new and exciting talent to Selhurst Park. The signing of Chadi Riad is a clear indication of the club’s intent to back their new manager and continue their upward trajectory.
