Rabat – Morocco’s Anti-Gang Brigade of the Casablanca Judicial Police intercepted a significant shipment of psychoactive substances on Friday. The operation resulted in the seizure of 62,550 drug tablets and the arrest of three individuals.
The drug bust was the result of precise intelligence from the General Directorate of Territorial Surveillance.
During the operation, the police arrested three suspects aged between 27 and 46. The suspects were apprehended in an SUV on the New Road in Casablanca. The intercepted shipment included 62,550 Ecstasy (MDMA) tablets earmarked for distribution.
A search of the vehicle also uncovered an electronic scale, 2.7 kilograms of synthetic MDMA, and a sum of money believed to be proceeds from the drug trafficking operation.
Further investigation revealed that one of the suspects was already wanted in Morocco by the Casablanca Judicial Police in connection with a theft case.
The three suspects are currently in custody, pending further investigation under the supervision of the Public Prosecution. Authorities aim to determine the full extent and potential connections of this criminal enterprise.
The operation is in line with Morocco’s broader strategy to crack down on drug trafficking. In 2023, Moroccan security forces processed 99,513 drug cases and apprehended 130,212 suspects, including 305 foreigners involved in drug-related crimes.
In terms of seizures, authorities confiscated more than 81 tons of cannabis, up 17% from the previous year. In addition, significant amounts of cocaine, heroin, and psychotropic substances were intercepted.
