Rabat – Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune has been subject to mockery after a viral video online shows him sharing unprofessional language during an official speech.

The video, which appeared to be an extract from Tebboune’s speech during Labor Day, shows the Algerian president saying; “If you speak to me with kind words, that’s fine, as I’ll overlook your words…yet I have a rock in my hand, if you try to jump the queue, I’ll take action.”

The president’s unprofessional language stirred mockery amongst citizens, leading internet users to doubt his legitimacy.

“When we were kids, we were told that only lunatics can throw you with stocks. When we grow up, we learnt that even Tebboune throws people with stones,”  one internet user wrote on X, formerly Twitter.

Another user said, “this is why Tebboune seeks to exploit the Gara Djebilet mine” in the Tindouf Province, referencing that the president wants to exploit the rocks on the site to use it against people.

Algerian political analyst Oualid Kebir commented on his Facebook about Tebboune’s remarks describing them as “thuggish phrases.”

“What is this?! Tebboune severely tarnished Algeria’s reputation and confirms that his regime is purely mafia-like: “Is this the level of the head of state?” he wrote on Facebook.

“Is this the level of a president addressing the nation, with such a thuggish language? Do you see now why Morocco does not respond to his remarks officially? another netizen said.
