Rabat – Hit Radio host Mohamed Bousfiha, known as “Momo” said he trusts Morocco’s judiciary after he appealed a four-month prison sentence for his involvement in a staged on-air robbery.
Momo shared a video on his Instagram, saying that he appealed the verdict, reiterating his denial that he has connections with two suspects involved in the staged robbery case.
Last week, a court sentenced Momo to four months in prison for his involvement in the staged on-air robbery.
The court sentence came after police opened an investigation after an unexpected turn of events when a caller, who was speaking as an everyday radio enthusiast, suddenly shouted “a thief, a thief!”
The speaker implied that he was being robbed live on air.
In response, Moroccan police revealed that the caller had assumed a false identity and fabricated a fictitious robbery scene with the help of another person, stressing that the scheme was for personal gain and also to increase both the show’s and the radio’ station’s audience.
Momo, however, denied he had a connection with any of the two suspects involved in the staged robbery.
Speaking about the day of the staged incident, Momo said he had a phone call from a radio enthusiast who suddenly shouted “Iphone, Iphone.”
“We have been very worried…people started calling us to find out what happened to him. We asked the listeners to stop calling until we reach out to the guy to make sure he is ok,” Momo said.
Momo added that the same person called the radio again and claimed that he was robbed and someone took the phone that he just bought.
“We felt bad because he said he still had not fully paid the phone yet, and we asked him if he filed a complaint.”
“He said the police told him that the spot where he was robbed had no camera and he could come later I asked him if he had to return to complete the complaint. We felt bad for him so we decided to tell him that he won a phone,” Momo added.
He said that a person came to Hit Radio headquarters and received the phone as a gift.
When he was received by Momo, the individual recounted the case but an investigation by the police determined that the case was fabricated. He invited him and they sat together when he again encountered the case.
“We have been informed about the situation, and I assure you that I have no connection with the two guys,” Momo said that he appealed the four-month sentence.
“I trust the judiciary and our competent security services ….My lawyers are convinced and have evidence that I have no connection ith the defendants,” Momo said, thanking all people for their support.
“My mother has been impacted by all that has been happening,” he concluded.
