Rabat – Moroccan radio station Hit Radio has denied involvement in the staged robbery broadcasted live on its show last week.
“We strongly refute any implication in the commission of these acts, completely contrary to our values,” a statement from Hit Radio said today.
The statement comes after the General Directorate of National Security (DGSN) issued a press release; announcing the results of an investigation into a live on-air robbery during the “Momo Morning Show” aired by Hit Radio featuring Mohamed Bousfiha, known as “Momo.”
The investigation followed an unexpected turn of events last week when a caller, poised as an everyday radio enthusiast, was speaking when he suddenly exclaimed “a thief, a thief!” implying that they were being robbed live on air.
In response to the situation, DGSN said that investigations by the General Directorate of Territorial Surveillance (DGST) revealed that the caller had assumed a false identity and fabricated a fictitious scene of robbery with the assistance of another individual.

This scheme was for personal gain and also to increase the radio station’s audience, the police statement noted.
Hit Radio, however, said that they had nothing to do with the incident, and that its collaborators are “entirely unrelated to this matter.” They further denied “any connection with the individuals behind the alleged acts.”
The statement added that Hit Radio is also “fully willing to cooperate with competent authorities to clarify matters and ensure that the truth is established.” The statement further noted that the radio expresses its unwavering respect for law enforcement and judicial authorities as well as its appreciation for the work they do in serving the citizens to maintain public security.
Hit Radio also said that it reserves the right to “take all legal measures against those seeking to tarnish our reputation with false allegations.”
Earlier this week, converging reports said that the public prosecutor at the Ain Sebaa Court in Casablanca decided that Momo must pay bail of MAD 100,000, and is under constant surveillance as part of the ongoing investigation.
Following the suspects’ interrogation today, the public prosecution has decided to pursue charges against two individuals for fabricating a false crime and insulting an organized entity. They will be referred to the Ain Sebaa Local Prison (Oukacha) for further legal proceedings.
