Rabat – Malaysia celebrates Eid Al Fitr on Wednesday, April 10th, 2024, marking the beginning of Shawwal, the tenth month of the lunar calendar.

The Malaysian Housing Ministry announced on its official accounts that Hari Raya Eid Al Fitr will fall on Wednesday, April 10th.

As the exact day of Eid Al Fitr cannot be predicted, religious authorities perform the sighting of the new moon to officially announce the news on the eve of Eid.

Eid Al Fitr, also known as “Hari Raya Aidilfitri” in Malaysia, is an Islamic celebration that signifies the conclusion of Ramadan’s fasting.

The day before Eid is bustling for Muslims globally, in Malaysia, individuals decorate their homes with lights and ornaments.

A few days before Eid Al Fitr, Malaysian highways from the north to the south experienced heavy congestion due to the “Hari Raya Exodus.” This is when Malaysians journey back to their hometowns to celebrate the festival with their families.

This year, in Malaysia, the holiday period is set to extend for two consecutive days, beginning on April 10th and concluding on April 11th, as indicated by the public holiday schedule.

Malaysian Muslims adorn themselves in their finest traditional attire, with men donning “Baju Melayu” – consisting of a long-sleeved shirt and trousers – while women opt for “Baju Kurung,” a loose-fitting full-length dress comprising a blouse and skirt.

Before making their way to mosques to perform the Eid prayer, Malaysians observe a cherished tradition of seeking forgiveness from their families and friends and paying special respect to their elders.

The spirit of Eid resonates throughout the month, as Malaysians seize the opportunity to strengthen personal bonds with individuals they may not have seen in some time, through heartfelt visits and gatherings.
