Rabat – A group of 28 imams and religious guides arrived on Saturday in Madrid as part of a delegation set to lead prayers as well as conferences in several mosques and prayer spaces in the city during the holy month of Ramadan 2024.

The overall delegation tasked with leading prayers and conferences in Spain consists of 49 members, including imams, preachers, and religious guides that will be distributed across several regions across Spain.

The delegation visit is part of an initiative launched by Morocco’s Islamic Affairs Ministry in coordination with the Federation of the Union of Mosques in Spain to meet the needs of the Moroccan community in the European country in terms of religious guidance.

Abdelaziz El Moudden, the president of the federation, held a welcoming ceremony on Saturday in honor of the Moroccan delegation.

El Moudden highlighted the importance of the initiative, stressing that its goal is to strengthen the attachment of the Moroccan community in Spain to the values of their religion and preserve their national identity.

This initiative also aims to instill in the Moroccan community settled in Spain the noble principles and precepts of tolerant Islam and the moderate approach advocated by Morocco, he added.

The consul general of Morocco in Spain Kamal Arifi commented on the initiative, noting that the responsibility of the delegation is to preserve the spiritual integrity of the Moroccan community members and their children in the face of harmful external influences.

Earlier this month, the Hassan II Foundation for Moroccans Residing Abroad said that Morocco will send a 274-member delegation of Islamic scholars, preachers, and Quran reciters to provide spiritual guidance to Moroccan diaspora members in 14 countries during Ramadan.

The initiative will serve Moroccan communities in France, Germany, the Netherlands, Spain, Italy, Belgium, Canada, the US, Sweden, Denmark., the UK, Hungary, Norway, and Iceland during the holy month of Ramadan.

Ramadan is set to begin on March 12 in several countries worldwide, including Morocco.

Several countries, including in Europe and America are set to begin fasting Ramadan on March 11.
