Rabat – Morocco’s Delegate-Minister in charge of relations with Parliament and government spokesperson Mustapha Baitas announced during a press conference today that the number of applications for housing subsidies reached 52,000 as of February 27, reflecting the growing interest in this program.

When asked about the most recent changes to the housing subsidy program, Baitas stated that 75% of the applications were for housing under MAD 300,000 (almost $30,000) and 25% were for housing between MAD 300,000 and MAD 700,000 (almost $70,000).

Of these applications, the minister added, 81% were from Moroccan nationals and 19% were from Moroccans residing abroad.

In addition, 37% of applications were submitted by women and 63% by men, while the average age of applicants is 41 years old, Baitas detailed.

When it comes to applications by communes and regions, Fez ranks first, followed by Meknes, Tangier, Marrakech, Berrechid, Skhirat, Kenitra, and Sale.

The minister also emphasized that the government assessed earlier initiatives to see how much they helped the social classes in need of assistance in purchasing a home. As a result, this led it to adopt a new approach to promote demand rather than supply.

This process has been carried out in compliance with several regulations and in collaboration with a consortium of national banks, notaries, and other specialized departments that oversee this procedure.

According to information disclosed during a press conference held on February 1 on the same matter, Baitas said that by January 31, the Moroccan government had received 41,662 requests for housing assistance.

Launched by royal decree at the beginning of the year, the housing support program includes a digital platform where potential Moroccans may submit their housing help requests to the Ministry of National Territorial Planning, Urbanism, Housing, and City Policy.
