Rabat – Mustapha Baitas, government spokesperson and Delegate Minister for Relations with Parliament, revealed during a press conference today that the Moroccan government received 41,662 requests for housing assistance by January 31st.
The housing support program, initiated by royal decree at the start of the year, features a digital platform in which prospective Moroccans can submit their requests for housing assistance to the Ministry of National Territorial Planning, Urbanism, Housing, and City Policy.
The program’s allocated budget amounts to MAD 9.5 billion ($9.5 thousand), and is set to target the construction of between 70 thousand ($700) and 100 thousand ($100) housing units in the first year.
Baitas revealed the numbers at a press conference that took place in Rabat after the Government Council meeting, where he spoke to the progress of the program.

He said that 76% of the requests are from people looking to buy a home priced below MAD 300 thousand ($300) , while 24% are seeking assistance for homes priced between MAD 300 thousand ($300) and-700 thousand ($700).
The spokesperson also detailed the demographics of these requests.
The spokesperson also mentioned that 81% of the requests are from people living in Morocco, while the remaining 19% are from Moroccans residing abroad. Additionally, 37% of the requests are from women and 63% are from men.
In terms of age, the average applicant is 40 years old, which is an indication that the housing assistance program is successfully reaching young individuals and couples.
The program, aimed to support citizens in access to decent housing and foster social inclusion, provides direct financial assistance. This includes MAD 100 thousand ($100) for those buying property valued under MAD 300 thousand ($300) as well as MAD 70 thousand ($70) for those buying property valued between MAD 300 thousand ($300) and 700 thousand ($700).
Baitas highlighted that this housing support program is just one of the various government initiatives aimed at supporting Moroccan families.
