Fez – Morocco’s Minister of Energy Transition and Sustainable Development, Leila Benali, met Saturday in Munich with the German Vice-Chancellor and Federal Minister for Economic Affairs and Climate Action, Robert Habeck, to discuss ways to strengthen bilateral cooperation in the field ofenergy.

”This meeting represented a great opportunity to highlight Moroccan-German relations and strategic partnership on issues relating to energy transition and sustainable development,” Benali said on the sidelines of the 60th Munich Security Conference on Saturday.

“During the meeting, both parties shed light on Morocco’s plan to be a central and major player in the new hydrogen economy,” noted Minister Benali.

The two officials also discussed ways to reestablish the foundations of a new generation of strategic partnerships between Morocco and Germany on issues that are important for Africa and Europe, MAP news agency reported in a press release.

For his part, Robert Habeck, who announced his intention to visit Morocco soon, indicated that this meeting was marked by a “deep and intense” exchange on hydrogen, and that Morocco’s potential in the energy field is a great asset for the strengthening of cooperation between the two countries.

Moroccan minister Benali also spoke with the Belgian Minister of Energy, Tinne Van der Straeten, about ways to strengthen cooperation between both countries in the field of energy transition.

Morocco enjoys fifteen years of experience in the development of renewable projects, which are important for the energy transition. The country has also had a plethora of experience in the mining sector, which today has become an important sector for critical metals, Benali revealed to MAP news agency.

Morocco’s energy strategy is based on three pillars, which are namely. renewable energies, energy efficiency and regional integration.

Today, Morocco is perceived worldwide as a model that has achieved a great deal of success in its energy transition, and its leadership in renewable energy demonstrates that sustainable development is a tangible reality based on clean energy and resilience, the Minister pointed out.
