Rabat – The Moroccan national football team is set to participate in two friendly matches in March as part of their preparations for upcoming competitions, including the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.

The team will lock horns with Angola on March 22 at the Grand Stadium in Agadir, followed by a match against Mauritania on March 26 at the same venue.

The two friendly games will mark the Atlas Lions’ first appearance after their disappointing elimination from the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Côte d’Ivoire.

South Africa ended Morocco’s AFCON journey last month with a 2-0 upset in the tournament’s Round of 16.

The Moroccan team were favorites to not only win the clash against South Africa but the tournament itself, making their early- exit even more disappointing.

Following the unexpected elimination, head coach Walid Regragui expressed his commitment to assess the team’s performance and make decisions to improve it.

He reiterated his openness to evaluation and collective decision-making, as he acknowledged both the highs and lows of football.

Regragui met with President of the Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF) Fouzi Lekjaa, where the federation renewed their trust in the coach despite the setback.

Both Lekjaa and Regragui expressed their commitment to strive for success in future tournaments, including at the upcoming AFCON in 2025 and the 2030 World Cup which Morocco will host alongside Spain and Portugal.
