Casablanca – Manchester City are intensifying efforts to sign Moroccan international Ayyoub Bouaddi, according to The Athletic’s David Ornstein.
The interest in Bouaddi comes as the Premier League champions look to win the race for one of Europe’s most highly rated young midfielders.
The report states that City are pushing hard to complete a deal before the 18-year-old makes a final decision on his future. While Lille are open to a sale under the right conditions, the French club is expected to demand a significant transfer fee for the midfielder.
Bouaddi further enhanced his growing reputation during Morocco’s run to the quarterfinals of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, emerging as one of the tournament’s breakout stars after helping the Atlas Lions reach the knockout stages for a second consecutive edition.
“The 18-year-old Lille midfielder was already well known by keen observers in Europe and beyond,” Ornstein wrote. “However, the tournament served to confirm both his existing level and future potential, in turn, cranking up the interest from those suitors.”
According to The Athletic, Manchester City are among several clubs to have maintained contact with Bouaddi’s representatives over the past year, alongside Arsenal and Manchester United. However, City are currently leading the pursuit and are eager to bring the midfielder to the Etihad.
The report adds that while some interested clubs would be willing to let Bouaddi remain at Lille for another season, City would prefer to integrate him into Enzo Maresca’s squad immediately as they continue to reshape their midfield.
Lille are expected to consider offers they deem appropriate, although The Athletic notes that valuations around €100 million could prove prohibitive for many clubs.
Paris Saint-Germain, despite having played a role in Bouaddi’s move to Lille in 2021 through football advisor Luis Campos, are not considered a contender for his signature this summer.
With interest continuing to build following his performances for both club and country, Bouaddi is increasingly viewed as one of Morocco’s brightest footballing prospects and one of the most sought-after young midfielders in Europe.
