Rabat – As anticipation builds for the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Cote d’Ivoire, Moroccan international Amine Harit shares his insights, emphasizing that winning the title will require unwavering sacrifice and determination.

In an interview with Radio Monte Carlo (RMC) published on January 1, the Olympique Marseille (OM) midfielder pointed out that there are a lot of strong teams that are among the favorites to win the continental tournament.

Winning the AFCON “does not only need quality, but sacrifice, determination, mentality,” he argued, adding that “these are the things that will make the difference in the competition.”

Asked to name his favorite team to win the title, Harit cited Senegal, who won the tournament’s last edition in Cameroon.

He also nominated Cote d’Ivoire to win the title, since the tournament will be held on its soil. “But we [Morocco] also have a very good team,” he added.

Harit also spoke about the players’ relationship with head coach Walid Regragui, saying: “Before being professional, our relationship with him was friendly, as if he were our older brother.”

He went on to say that the coach has shown a lot of determination, stressing that, as a former international player, Regragui “knows what to do and what not to do.”

The 26-year-old player praised the Atlas Lions coach’s leadership style, saying that he inspires a sense of desire that makes players want to leave their legs on the field for him. “He has succeeded in creating a cohesive team,” Harit said of his coach.

Towards the end of the interview, the OM midfielder spoke about the high expectations  of Moroccan supporters in the wake of Morocco’s historic performance at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

“We feel this when we are in Morocco. When people talk to us, we feel that they are thirsty for victories and are waiting for us,” he stated, emphasizing the team’s readiness to fight in order to restore the pride gained in the World Cup and make Moroccan fans happy.
