Rabat – The UN General Assembly is set to convene its members today to discuss an “immediate humanitarian ceasefire” against Israeli aggression in Gaza.
The General Assembly is expected to vote on a draft resolution similar to the language used in the text vetoed by the US during the Security Council meeting on Friday last week.
The change, in this case, however, is that none of the countries from the 193 General Assembly members have veto power.
The General Assembly meeting will take place a few months following its previous Gaza discussion on October 27. During the previous meeting, 120 countries voted for a resolution that called for an “immediate, durable, and sustained humanitarian truce leading to a cessation of hostilities.”
The meeting also comes amid intensified Israeli aggression targeting civilians of all ages, including children and the elderly.
The number of children murdered during the Israeli bloody war has reached nearly 8,000 since October 7.
The occupation forces have killed over 18,200 Palestinians since the launch of the murderous campaign. The number is set to surge as the relentless shelling continues in Gaza while violent raids are expanding throughout the occupied West Bank.
Palestinian news agency Wafa said today that the Israeli occupation forces detained 50 Palestinians in raids at their homes across the occupied West Bank, including two women.
Israeli occupation forces also demolished facilities, including a barn and a farm in the east of occupied Jerusalem.
Meanwhile, dozens of extremist settlers broke into the compounds of the al-Aqsa Mosque under heavy protection from occupation forces.
The settlers raided the holy mosque and performed rituals in its eastern part.
Today, Israeli occupation forces also killed 22 civilians including children and women in a bombing of homes in Rafah and Khan Yunis in the southern Gaza Strip.
