Rabat – A top OpenAI executive has acknowledged a fear that many hold about the fast emergence of artificial intelligence – that the technology could be disruptive, with the potential to challenge and change job patterns as well as how companies operate.

In an opinion-like piece published by Fidji Simo, the chief executive officer of the OpenAI application, asserted that AI could be a tool that disrupts workplaces and affects how jobs are done.

However, the company’s OpenAI Application head reassured that AI could turn risks into opportunities if it was harnessed, used, and embraced properly.

“Whenever I talk with people about AI, one of the first questions I get is ‘What’s it going to mean for my job?’” Simo wrote, also citing questions she receives about how this tool will affect people’s companies.

“I tell them I believe AI will unlock more opportunities for more than any technology in history,” Simo answered, arguing that this tool could be used to help companies operate more efficiently.

Simo acknowledged how AI will be disruptive for jobs, noting that the company cannot eliminate that disruption. However, she asserts that AI could also create more jobs and turn ideas into income.

But how?

“What we can do is help more people become more fluent in AI and connect with companies that need tier skills,” she said. This is why OpenAI is seeking to further develop and build the OpenAI Jobs Platform to help businesses connect with AI-savvy employees.

“The OpenAI Jobs Platform will have knowledgeable, experienced candidates at every level, and opportunities for anyone looking to put their skills to use,” Simo wrote.

She promised that this jobs platform will serve big companies to attract more talent, citing studies that show how AI-savvy workers are “more productive and “more valuable.”

Simo also announced how its OpenAI Academy will expand to offer certifications for different levels of AI fluency, with a commitment to certify over 10 million Americans by 2030.

However, several reports suggest that OpenAI’s new initiatives in the employment sector present a challenge to platforms such as LinkedIn.

CNBC reported that the new certification program from OpenAI could rival LinkedIn’s learning platform.

“This could also put it in competition with LinkedIn’s learning platform, which also offers video courses across business technology and creative fields, with certifications,” CNBC wrote on Friday.
