Rabat – The besieged area of Gaza is one of the most dangerous places for women worldwide, according to converging reports, as women and girls in Gaza have been experiencing unprecedented levels of violence.
In the midst of Israel’s ongoing bloody war, women and girls in Gaza are suffering alarmingly high rates of casualties, daily denial of basic rights, and severe psychological distress.
Meanwhile, the world is observing the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence, an international campaign held annually from November 25 (International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women) to December 10 (Human Rights Day).
Recent statistics showed that two mothers are killed in Gaza every hour on average, and seven women are killed every two hours.
Additionally, 180 women in Gaza endanger their lives every day giving birth without access to proper medical treatment.
This involves having emergency procedures such as C-sections performed without the appropriate anesthetics, painkillers, or sterilization.
“We have faced many horrifying stories during the [attacks] on the Gaza Strip: women who have suffered physical and psychological violence,” said Hana, a doctor at Al-Awda hospital in the north of Gaza.
Since the war started on October 7, over 5,000 women have been killed by Israel. Overall, the occupation’s aggression has killed over 17,000 people, including over 7,000 children.
