Rabat – Moroccans maintain their position as the largest foreign student community in France, new statistics from Campus France announced today.

The new data from the agency responsible for promoting higher education shows that French schools host over 42,000 Moroccan students, who pursue the country’s education, particularly in engineering and mathematics.

This means that 10% of international students in France are Moroccans, with the majority, or 56% of them, choosing multidisciplinary universities, with a growing number choosing specialized schools in fields such as engineering and business.

The total foreign student community amounts to 445,000 individuals in France, representing 15% of the student population in the European country.

Morocco, China, Italy, and Senegal remain the main countries of origin.

France has witnessed a decline in Chinese student numbers over the last five years, whereas Italy and Spain recorded an increase of over 35% in enrollment.

This is not the first time Campus France has featured the large presence of Moroccan students in the European country..  Earlier this month, a spokesperson from the agency stressed that Moroccans have, for several years, ranked among the very first foreign students admitted to Ecole Polytechnique, one of the most prestigious institutions in the world.

Master’s programs account for 56% of enrollments, followed by bachelor’s programs and doctoral studies. Additionally, Campus France detailed around 14% of Moroccan students pursue engineering.

Several other reports shed light on Moroccans’ high achievement and performance in admission exams. Recently, a report by Ecole Polytechnique indicated that 24 Moroccan students have secured spots within the institution in the current academic season.
