Rabat – Moroccan police in Tangier arrested on Wednesday a French-Algerian national who was subject to an international arrest warrant.

Police made the arrest in coordination with Interpol.

A statement from Morocco’s General Directorate of National Security (DGSN) said the suspect is wanted for his alleged involvement in a case of kidnapping, unlawful confinement, and death threats.

His acts are part of a “settling of scores between international drug trafficking networks,” the statement said.

Police put the suspect in custody pending extradition procedures to France.

Morocco has been actively contributing to efforts as part of its cooperation and vigilant approach, seeking to address regional security challenges, like drug trafficking and organized crime.

The North African country has helped many countries to arrest suspects who are subject to arrest warrants from Interpol.

Interpol President Ahmed Nasser Al Raissi has frequently stressed Morocco’s crucial role in helping allies through security contributions.

In May, Interpol President Ahmed Nasser Al Raissi described Morocco’s security system as advanced, efficient, professional, and committed to respecting human rights.

Al Raissi commended the appointment of Morocco’s Police Commissioner Mhamed Dkhissi to Interpol Vice President for Africa. He said that the appointment reflects the growing international confidence in the professionalism of the North African country’s security personnel.

He also recalled that Morocco will host the 93rd Interpol General Assembly in Marrakech in November. He described the event as a “culmination of Morocco’s long-term efforts to modernize, reform, and continuously upgrade its national security system.”
