Marrakech – King Mohammed VI has sent a message of condolences to the Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al-Thani, following a tragic car accident that killed three members of the Qatari Amiri Diwan near Sharm el-Sheikh, Egypt.

In his message, the Moroccan sovereign expressed his deep emotion and profound sadness upon learning of the accident. “I have learned with profound emotion and deep sorrow the tragic accident that claimed the lives of members of your Cabinet near the city of Sharm El Sheikh in the Arab Republic of Egypt, while they were performing their duties,” the King stated.

The three Qatari officials – Saud bin Thamer Al Thani, Abdullah Al-Ghanem Al-Khayarin, and Hassan Jaber Al-Jaber – died when their vehicle overturned about 50 kilometers from Sharm el-Sheikh. Two other officials, Abdullah Issa Al-Kuwari and Mohammed Abdulaziz Al-Buainain, were injured in the crash and received treatment at Sharm el-Sheikh International Hospital.

According to Egypt’s state-run Al-Qahera News channel, the accident was caused by a steering wheel malfunction. The Qatari Embassy in Cairo described the incident as a “tragic traffic accident” that occurred while the officials were performing their duties.

The King conveyed his sincere condolences to the Qatari Emir and the families of the victims, as well as to the brotherly people of Qatar. He prayed for the Almighty to grant them patience and comfort, to welcome the deceased into His holy mercy, and to ensure a speedy recovery for the injured.

The accident occurred just days after officials from Qatar, Turkey, and Egypt participated in indirect talks in Sharm el-Sheikh that led to an agreement between Israel and Hamas on the first phase of US President Donald Trump’s plan to end Israel’s genocidal war in Gaza.

Sharm el-Sheikh hosted a global summit on Monday – co-chaired by Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah el-Sissi and Donald Trump – to finalize the ceasefire agreement.

More than 20 countries attended the summit, which sought to “end the war in the Gaza Strip, enhance efforts to bring peace and stability to the Middle East, and usher in a new phase of regional security and stability,” according to an Egyptian presidential statement.

At the summit, Trump spoke of “a new and beautiful day” for Gaza, emphasizing reconstruction efforts. However, regional leaders, including Egyptian President el-Sissi, stressed that only the creation of a Palestinian state could offer a lasting end to the conflict.

The ceasefire comes after the Israeli genocide killed over 67,600 Palestinians in Gaza – most of them women and children – and left much of the territory uninhabitable.

Despite the toll of the Israeli Occupation Forces (IOF)’s campaign, which has been described as a genocide by a growing number of scholars and rights groups, questions remain about Gaza’s future governance and reconstruction.

The Moroccan monarch concluded his message by affirming that he shares the Qatari Emir’s pain in the face of this immense loss, praying for the Almighty to preserve Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al-Thani and protect him and the brotherly Qatari people from all misfortune.
