Rabat – The International University of Rabat (UIR) announced today the appointment of renowned political scientist professor Mohamed Tozy as Dean of the College of Social Sciences.
A statement from UIR celebrated the appointment, describing Tozy as one of the “leading figures in social sciences in Morocco and the Arab world.”
As part of his duties as the social sciences dean, professor Tozy will be responsible for strengthening UIR’s role as a hub of “excellence and thought on major contemporary issues by developing high-impact and interdisciplinary programs,” the university said in a statement today.
Commenting on his appointment, professor Tozy said joining the International University of Rabat is a contribution to a “project of public interest based on a model of university delegated to serve the public good.”
He said that he is convinced that the university, in partnership with public universities, “plays a full part in the national effort to make scientific research and social sciences key drivers of the country’s development and sovereignty.”
President of UIR, Professor Noureddine Mouaddib, commended the appointment of Tozy. He said his appointment reflects the school’s ambition to “surround itself with leading intellectual figures,” highlighting the professor’s expertise and vision that seek to further enhance the scientific and societal influence of the College of Social Sciences.

Tozy is a specialist in the sociology of religion and political analysis in the Maghreb. The academic brings with him to UIR a long career in teaching, having taught at both Hassan II University of Casablanca and Sciences Po Aix between 2007 and 2025.
Between 2021-2024, Tozy also served as a deputy director of research and head of the UMR Mesopolhis research unit.
The professor has published several works, including “Monarchie et islam politique au Maroc” (Monarchy and Islamic Politics in Morocco), as well as “Tisser le temps politique au Maroc” (Weaving Political Time in Morocco), which was translated into English in 2026 by Oxford University Press.
Tozy was also a member of the Constitutional Review Commission in 2021, and the Special Commission on the New Development Model between 2019-2021.
“His career reflects a steadfast commitment to research, civic engagement, and public policy reflection,” UIR said in its statement.
