Rabat – Spanish airline Vueling has launched a new flight between Barcelona and Agadir.

The inaugural flight was on Sunday. The flight will operate twice a week on Wednesdays and Sundays.

The new air service is part of Vueling’s winter program and expansion strategy aimed at boosting international connections from Barcelona.

“With this new route, the Spanish low-cost airline is consolidating its presence in Morocco, where it already serves the cities of Essaouira and Marrakech from Barcelona,” the company said in a statement.

The flight also serves as a catalyst for Morocco’s tourism sector, which aspires to reach at least 20 million arrivals this year.

A mega airport expansion is ongoing to reinforce the country’s air system and connectivity.

In February, Minister of Transport Abdessamad Kayouh said Morocco is set to invest $4.1 billion in airport expansion projects by 2030.

The FIFA World Cup 2030, which Morocco is hosting along with Spain and Portugal, will serve as a key catalyst for Morocco’s airport expansion goal.

In 2024, over 32 million passengers used Morocco’s airports, including international tourists and domestic travelers.

Airport traffic could reach as high as 60 million passengers by 2030 and 90 million by 2035, according to the minister.

Tourist arrivals in Morocco reached 16.6 million by the end of October this year.

The Ministry of Tourism said the number marks a 14% increase compared to the same period a year earlier, attributing the “remarkable momentum” to the 2023 roadmap and the “growing confidence” of both domestic and foreign investors in the industry.
