Snow, Heavy Rain, Strong Winds Forecast Across Multiple Moroccan Regions

Rabat – Morocco’s General Directorate of Meteorology (DGM) has issued an orange-level weather alert, warning of snowfall, heavy rain, and strong winds expected across several provinces from today through Wednesday.

According to the DGM, snowfall ranging between 20 and 40 centimeters is forecast at elevations above 1,500 meters from today at noon until Monday at 11 p.m. The provinces concerned include Midelt, Azilal, Beni Mellal, Khenifra, Boulemane, Ifrane, Sefrou, Taza, and Guercif.

During the same period, lighter snowfall of 5 to 15 centimeters is expected in Taourirt, Al Hoceima, Ouarzazate, Tinghir, Al Haouz, Figuig, Jerada, and Chefchaouen.

The DGM also announced a new snowfall episode between Tuesday at midnight and Wednesday at 9 a.m., with accumulations of 10 to 30 centimeters above 1,500 meters in Al Hoceima, Sefrou, Boulemane, Ifrane, Midelt, Taza, and Guercif.

In addition to snow, heavy rainfall, sometimes accompanied by thunderstorms and wind gusts, is expected from Sunday at 10:30 a.m. to Monday at 9 a.m. Rainfall amounts of 35 to 60 millimeters are forecast in Taza, Tetouan, Taounate, Larache, Fahs-Anjra, Chefchaouen, Ouezzane, Tangier-Assilah, M’diq-Fnideq, Al Hoceima, Kenitra, and Sidi Kacem.

Rainfall totals of 25 to 35 millimeters are also expected over the same period in Driouch, El Hajeb, Ifrane, Khénifra, Beni Mellal, Fes, Sefrou, Khemisset, Rabat, Sidi Slimane, Moulay Yaacoub, Sale, Skhirat-Temara, and Meknes.

The weather bulletin further warns of strong wind gusts reaching 75 to 85 kilometers per hour from Sunday at 6 p.m. to Monday at 10 p.m. in Tinghir, Sidi Ifni, Boulemane, Midelt, Ifrane, Guelmim, and Ouarzazate.
