After receiving strong backing from Moroccan supporters during its African Cup of Nations group-stage matches in Agadir, the Egyptian Football Association (EFA) has issued an official message of thanks to the host nation’s fans.

Egypt played its Group B matches at Adrar Stadium against Zimbabwe and South Africa in front of packed crowds, largely made up of Moroccan fans. The constant chanting and vocal encouragement created a lively atmosphere that made the Egyptian players feel at home, despite playing away.

In an official statement, the EFA said:

“The Egyptian Football Association extends its sincere thanks and appreciation to the brotherly Moroccan fans for the tremendous support given to the Egyptian national team during its matches in the city of Agadir, as part of the African Cup of Nations.

The Egyptian Football Association values this genuine support from the Moroccan fans, which reflects the deep fraternal and historical ties between the Egyptian and Moroccan peoples, and underscores the high sporting spirit and Arab solidarity displayed on African football fields.

While expressing pride in this warm reception and support, the Egyptian Football Association wishes the brotherly Kingdom of Morocco continued success and progress and every success in organizing the African Cup of Nations in a manner befitting its status and organizational capabilities.”

That support coincided with positive results on the pitch as Egypt edged South Africa 1–0. A few days prior, the Pharaohs defeated Zimbabwe 2–1. The two wins made Egypt the first team to secure qualification for the knockout stage of the tournament.
