Rabat – Turkiye announced today the arrest of 125 ISIl suspects in different operations across 25 provinces.
Turkish Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya said today that the arrests took place in simultaneous operations carried out this morning.
Provincial gendarmerie and the country’s general directorate of security collaborated to conduct the operation, as well as police in different locations, including Ankara, Bursa, Hatay, Mardin, Istanbul, Izmir, among several other places.
“Those who target our brotherhood, unity, and solidarity, those who seek to exploit our faith, and those who attack our values will face nothing but the strength of our state and the unity of our nation,” the interior minister wrote.
The arrests came as part of ongoing raids against alleged ISIS suspects.
The interior minister said the raid was conducted with “a great deal of care because there were women and children at the address.”
On Monday, Yerlikaya said police carried out 108 separate overnight raids on alleged ISIL safehouses in different provinces.
Turkey also announced that six ISIL suspects died in a shootout. Three police officers died during the operation.
Turkish police have been intensifying counterterrorism efforts since 2017, which marked an ISIS attack on the Reina nightclub during New Year celebrations that killed 39 people.
