Mali qualified as Group A runners-up behind Morocco, while Tunisia secured their spot by finishing second in Group C. Despite neither team winning their group, both squads possess the tournament experience to enter this knockout match with confidence.

This will be the 16th meeting between the two nations. Historically, Tunisia holds a narrow advantage with seven wins to Mali’s five, with three draws. However, Mali maintains an unbeaten record against Tunisia in AFCON history, recording two wins and two draws in their four previous tournament encounters.

How to Watch

The match will be broadcast on beIN Sports 1, beIN Sports MENA Max 1, Canal+ Afrique, ORTM, Channel 4seven, SuperSport and Arryadia TNT.

Mali Team News

Mali arrive in the knockout stage without a win at the tournament so far, but their three group-stage draws were enough to secure second place in Group A. They shared points with Morocco and Zambia before playing out a goalless draw against Comoros.

Despite the absence of a win, Mali have shown resilience and proved difficult to defeat. They have now advanced to the knockout rounds in four consecutive AFCON tournaments.

Historically, Mali have performed well at this stage. They reached the quarter-finals at the 2023 tournament after defeating Burkina Faso and have previously advanced past the Round of 16 on two occasions. A win in Casablanca would see them reach the last eight for the seventh time in their AFCON history.

Against Tunisia, Mali have scored in every AFCON meeting between the two sides and have kept clean sheets in two of those encounters. They have also opened the scoring in all four previous AFCON matches.

Tunisia Team News

Tunisia return to the Round of 16 after missing out at the previous edition. The Carthage Eagles qualified from Group C with a win over Uganda, a draw against Tanzania, and a narrow defeat to Nigeria.

Defensively, Tunisia conceded in all three group matches, but they showed attacking threat and have now scored in three consecutive games at the tournament. Their win over Uganda was their first AFCON win in seven matches.

Tunisia have a strong record in the Round of 16, having never lost at this stage. They famously eliminated Ghana on penalties in 2019 and defeated Nigeria 1–0 in 2021. Progression would see them reach the quarter-finals for the 12th time.

Discipline and game management could again prove decisive. Tunisia have experience in tight knockout matches, including penalty shoot-outs, where they have a balanced record of three wins and three losses.

  • Score Prediction: Mali 1–1 Tunisia. Then Tunisia to edge it on penalties.
